Goalkeeper coach, former NCAA goalkeeper

Coaching Resume

I didn't make a pro, but I found a true love for coaching, and everything in my life revolves around developing the individual.

Coaching

  • AFC, Founder and Director, July 2021 to now

Elite and goalkeeper sessions in Lake Forest and Mission Viejo. I'm on the field five to six days a week, about five sessions a day.

  • Concordia University Irvine, goalkeeper coach, fall 2025 to now

NCAA Division II men's soccer, as a volunteer assistant, the year after my last season in goal. I was kind of nervous stepping into those sessions at first, because it's a different type of coaching point.

  • Laguna United FC, goalkeeper coach, August 2023 to now

Club goalkeepers, at the club I grew up playing for.

  • SETGK, coaching staff

How I coach

  • Paint the picture

With my club goalkeepers I go in numbered zones. Zone two is the top of your six-yard box, and zone one and a half is two to three steps back behind it. I showed them a video from an LAFC game, and the next reps, everybody did it correctly. It's because the picture was painted.

  • Next one

I love the words "next one." Anytime there's a mistake, that's all I say. The coaching point after a mistake is always going to be next one, and the more I say it, the more it gets stuck in their head.

  • The why

We don't just have them do drills. We have to give them the why behind drills, and I have to give my coaches an understanding of what they need to say and why they need to say it.

  • Ages 10 to 13

That 10 to 13 range is the peak age. If you really do well with those athletes, the next five to six years of their playing career can completely change because of that one coach.

  • How a session ends

Every session I run ends the same way. At the hour mark I bring them in and we go back over what we worked on. I ask what they can use this week and in the game this weekend, and they do it one more time. Then I walk them over to their parent and have the athlete explain what they learned.

  • Programming

I program in my notebook because it's faster. I create the shape, then I write down what's going to happen within the movement within that shape.

Playing

Concordia University Irvine, NCAA Division II, PacWest Conference. By 2023, Concordia had me in its top 10 for saves, saves per game, minutes and shutouts.

Before that: Tesoro High School, where I was Orange County Male Student Athlete of the Year, 2x All-CIF Division 2, 2x league MVP and a 3-year captain. Club soccer at Laguna United, Surf ECNL and West Coast ECNL, and four years in a pro environment as a fourth-string goalkeeper.

Education

Psychology degree from Concordia University Irvine, May 2025. First in my family to graduate college in the US. I did five majors: kinesiology, business admin, sports business, music, then psychology. I would go from psychology class to training to the field, so what I learned about interacting with humans and talking with parents I could apply right after school.

  • SafeSport Core, valid through September 2027.
  • Safe & Healthy Playing Environments, 2026.
  • Third degree black belt in Shotokan karate.
